The PITAA Secretariat team participated in a Child Protection Policy Training on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, at the PITAA Secretariat office in Suva. The one-day training was facilitated by Ms. Iris Low, Co-Director/Consultant from CoLAB–Collaborate Consulting Pte Ltd.

This important staff training aimed to strengthen PITAA’s understanding of its Child Protection Policy and ensure that all staff members are aware of their roles and responsibilities in promoting a safe and protective environment for children.

Through interactive sessions and activities, the training covered key areas such as:

  • The context of children and childhood
  • Child rights, child protection, and child safeguarding
  • Safeguarding principles and the characteristics of child-safe organisations
  • Identifying, responding to, and reporting abuse
  • Risk assessment and mitigation measures

The PITAA Secretariat is committed to ensuring staffs are well informed of internal policies and its alignment to national and international good practices.

Attendees included:

  • Mr. Petero Maivucevuce – PITAA Head of Secretariat
  • Ms. Madhvi Devi – PITAA Training Coordinator/Office Administrator
  • Ms. Akansha Narayan – PITAA Communications Officer
  • Mrs. Azida Khan – PITAA Finance Officer

By the end of the session, the team gained a better understanding of the policy and its implications in both their personal and professional lives, reinforcing PITAA’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
