Mr. Petero Maivucevuce represented the PITAA Secretariat at the Revenue Statistics in Asia and the Pacific—Technical Workshop, held from 4 to 5 November 2024 at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
ADB hosted the technical workshop, which was co-organized with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Pacific Community (SPC), and PITAA.
It brought together senior and technical officials from Asia-Pacific governments and organizations to:
- Discuss domestic resource mobilization in Asia and the Pacific, informed by the findings of the latest edition of Revenue Statistics in Asia and the Pacific;
- Share experiences in using revenue data to inform policies and reforms;
- Discuss experiences and challenges in producing harmonized public revenue data; and
- Plan the 2025 edition of Revenue Statistics in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Maivucevuce emphasized the PITAA Secretariat’s continued support towards this work since its establishment as it fosters dialogue on domestic revenue mobilization and the compilation of revenue statistics in the Pacific region.
“We have seen the increased participation from PITAA countries. Several Pacific Island nations have implemented innovative strategies to enhance tax compliance and broaden their tax bases, which yielded promising results. These efforts not only strengthen domestic revenue mobilization but also foster resilience against external economic shocks,” he added.
Revenue Statistics in Asia and the Pacific is an initiative led by the OECD in collaboration with participating economies, ADB, PITAA and SPC. The initiative produces an annual report and dataset presenting detailed, internationally comparable revenue statistics for Asian and Pacific economies. These data are crucial for comparative analysis and evidence-based decisions on tax policy and reforms. They also help to inform international dialogue around domestic resource mobilization.
“PITAA is committed to supporting this publication and its objectives. Collaboration is key, and we have continued to urge our non-participating members to join us in this effort. Together, we can ensure that every voice is heard, and that revenue data is effectively captured,” emphasized Mr. Maivucevuce.
