PITAA Secretariat participated at the Pacific One-stop-shop (POSS) design workshop at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva from 22nd to 24th October 2024.
The Pacific One-stop-shop (POSS) concept refers to a common, cost-effective GST/VAT registration, reporting, and payment solution shared by multiple jurisdictions in the region. The idea originated from the EU’s One-stop-shop first introduced in 2015.
The POSS design focused on enabling revenue collection through a simple experience for all parties involved – taxpayers, POSS administrators and participating jurisdictions.
The aim of the 3-day workshop was aligning key design decisions, particularly around the payment and disbarment processes, and co-designing an implementation roadmap encompassing the technology, legislation, and operation aspect of the POSS.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) led a detailed design project in collaboration with PITAA and other regional and international stakeholders such as Papua New Guinea Internal Revenue Commission (PNGIRC), Fiji Revenue & Customs Service (FRCS), Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Center (PFTAC) and Inter-American Centre of Tax Administrations (CIAT).
PITAA’s participation in the POSS design workshop is a key step towards enhancing regional tax administration collaboration, aligning technological and legislative frameworks, and streamlining GST/VAT processes across Pacific jurisdictions.
