The workshop is a joint initiative with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Center (PFTAC) and the PITAA Secretariat
Participants in the Tax Audit Program will experience a wide range of subjects directly related to audit good practices. The program will cover the following:
- Role of audit, integrity, professionalism, and tax secrecy;
- Audit and the Tax Compliance Model;
- Audit process, best practice and using audit checklists;
- Income Tax: basics of accounting and interpretation of financial statements;
- Tax reconciliations;
- Overview of VAT audit process, documentation and risks;
- Indirect audit methods: using 3rd party information, reconstruction of income/sales, confirming expenses claimed;
- Common audit issues and approaches to address the issues;
- Conducting taxpayer interviews;
- Estimating taxpayers tax liability; and
- Discussion on audit questions from participants.
Participants will participate in discussions and practical audit case work to address real-life audit issues, sharing their experiences with all participants.
