The Pacific Islands Tax Administrators Association (PITAA) reinforced its commitment to global tax cooperation and digital transformation through the participation of PITAA Head of Secretariat, Petero Maivucevuce, at the 60th General Assembly of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from 11-15th May 2026.

The assembly, hosted under the theme “Digital Transformation of Tax Administrations,” brought together tax leaders, policymakers, and international organizations from around the world to discuss the evolving future of taxation, innovation, and administration in the digital era. The event marked CIAT’s 60th anniversary and served as one of the most significant international platforms for dialogue and collaboration among tax administrations.

Through the attendance of the Head of Secretariat, Mr. Petero Maivucevuce was a panelist during the Closing Roundtable Session where he joined representatives from leading regional and international tax organizations, including the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators, African Tax Administration Forum, Circle for Reflection and Exchange for Tax Administration Executives, and Western African Tax Administration Forum.

Speaking during the discussion, Mr. Maivucevuce shared the Pacific perspective on regional collaboration, capacity building, and the growing importance of digital transformation within tax administrations across island economies.

“For Pacific tax administrations, digital transformation is not simply about technology. It is about creating more accessible, resilient, and efficient services for our people,” said Mr. Maivucevuce.

“Forums such as the CIAT General Assembly provide invaluable opportunities for PITAA to exchange experiences, strengthen partnerships, and learn from innovations taking place across the globe.”

Throughout the week-long assembly, discussions focused on strategies to improve tax compliance, end-to-end electronic services, data governance, artificial intelligence in tax administration, and infrastructure challenges associated with digital transformation.

Mr. Maivucevuce noted that many of the discussions resonated strongly with the Pacific region’s ongoing efforts to modernize tax systems while balancing the unique realities faced by small island developing states.

“Pacific administrations may be geographically dispersed, but we share common ambitions to strengthen revenue systems, improve taxpayer services, and embrace innovation responsibly,” he said.

“PITAA remains committed to ensuring that our members continue to have a voice in global conversations shaping the future of tax administration.”

PITAA’s participation at the 60th CIAT General Assembly further strengthened the Association’s international engagement and reaffirmed its role in promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and institutional development among Pacific tax administrations.

CIAT is a leading international organization of tax administrations that promotes cooperation, technical assistance, training, and knowledge sharing among revenue authorities worldwide. Its connection with PITAA is reinforced through the Network of Tax Organisations (NTO), a global platform that brings together regional and international tax bodies to strengthen collaboration, share practical solutions, and support reforms in tax administration. Through this network, PITAA is able to contribute Pacific perspectives to global discussions while deepening partnerships with organizations such as CIAT.
