Nadi, Fiji: Twenty (20) tax officials from across ten (10) Pacific tax administrations are in Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, Fiji from 24th – 27th February 2020 to attend the regional workshop on Management of Taxpayer Service.
A joint initiative of the Pacific Islands Tax Administrators Association (PITAA) Secretariat and the Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Center (PFTAC) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the workshop will be focusing on a wide range of topics directly related to taxpayer services good practice.
In her opening address, the Head of Secretariat- PITAA, Ms. Koni Ravono, stated that Taxpayer Services function is an important component of the overall compliance improvement strategy of tax administrations. “Tax administrations need to keep abreast with changes to taxpayer behavior and role of taxpayer services is to effectively raise awareness to the general public to improve tax compliance.” She further encouraged the participants to take this opportunity to build network, share experience and information and contextualize the learnings to suit their respective operating environment.
Mr. Georg Eysselein, PFTAC Revenue Administration Advisor, reinforced PFTAC’s commitment to supporting the region in building capacity on core tax functions with this regional workshop being the first event for the year with a number of events planned for the year.
The workshop will cover (1) Framework for effective tax administration and the emerging importance of taxpayer services; (2) Taxpayer service delivery method to facilitate compliance; (3) Components of an effective taxpayer service delivery method; (4) Managing and measuring the effectiveness of taxpayer service strategy; and (5) Increasing role of social media in the delivery of taxpayer service.
The workshop is being facilitated by IMF Short Term Consultants Mr. Stanley Shrosbree and Mr. Rick Fisher and will conclude on Thursday 27th February 2020.
